The proactive decisions made in the Zoning Bylaw will lay the groundwork for generations to come and help create a more equitable, open and caring city for all.
In this role your days will be filled with understanding how spatial data models link to the land development services, how to use this data to enhance the user experience when using the Zoning Bylaw Map and ensuring that the changes are implemented.
- Use project management skills and tools to ensure the successful completion of projects.
- Lead the design and implementation of geospatial changes such as the zoning data model changes, Public Hearing notifications, the creation of new Zoning Bylaw Map and development activities web maps and the integration of the web maps with the Zoning Bylaw Content Management System.
- Mentor other planners, planning technicians, and team staff in the manipulation of spatial data to create tools, methods, recommendations that will enable improved decision making.
- Engage and liaise with external and internal stakeholders to enhance the user experience with the new Zoning Bylaw Map and development activities web maps
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the department, across the corporation and with external city building partners.
- Utilize advanced computational and technological skills to develop relationships between spatial data sets, optimize queries, and data validation process.
- Supervise and lead a team of professionals to work collaboratively with operational areas in the Development Service Branch and across the corporation.
- Respond to inquiries from the public, City Council, internally and from management regarding the Zoning Bylaw Renewal Initiative and standalone zoning bylaw issues.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- The GIS Planner II will need to be experienced with GIS data models, creation and maintenance of web maps, human centric design, and urban planning processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, or in a field related to the functions specific to the position such as Geospatial Information Systems.
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning, spatial analysis, and project management.
- Eligibility for APPI or CIP is an asset.
- Designations, certificates and training in ArcGIS Pro, ESRI are required.
- Designations, certificates and training in FME, Tableau, Python, Adobe Creative Suite are an asset.
- Detailed knowledge of the principles and practices of urban and regional planning, including knowledge of legislation, regulatory requirements, and applicable governing policies and plans related to planning.
- Knowledge of project management principles.
- Demonstrated four years of progressively responsible experience mapping software including ArcGIS Pro.
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners and stakeholders and appropriately engage the public.
- Knowledge of statistical techniques, research methodology, and performance measurement.
- Strong knowledge of computer software necessary to the collecting, maintaining, analyzing, modeling, and presenting of spatialrelated data.
- Ability to adapt to emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and serviceminded style
