Job Description (EN):
***: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Roads Maintenance and direction of the Leadhand, performs maintenance and repair work on roads, sidewalks and bridges.
MAJOR TASKS:
- Performs repair and maintenance work on streets and roads and related drainage structures.
- Performs repair and maintenance work on sidewalks and retaining walls.
- Performs repair and maintenance work on pedestrian and vehicular bridges.
- Assists the Sign Installer in the performance of repair and maintenance work on regulatory and information signage.
- Assists in the performance of line and traffic control painting operations.
- Operates jack hammers, rock drills, power driver saws, pumps, manually guided vibrators and other related equipment.
- Operates roads maintenance equipment as required.
- Fills out time cards, material usage reports, and other related forms as required.
- Performs labouring duties as required.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A:
ENTRY LEVEL:
- Secondary school graduation; and
- 6 months experience in roads related maintenance; and construction; or (6) months satisfactory experience in related activities; and
- Capable of performing manual labouring duties and operating small machinery and tools; and
- Must possess and maintain a "G" class driver's licence; and have the ability to obtain an Ontario Class "DZ" Driver's Licence.
- Be able to understand, read, write and speak English fluently.
B:
CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT
IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE THE EMPLOYEE MUST BE:
- Able to operate jackhammers, rock drills, power driven saws, pumps, manually guided vibrators and other related equipment; and
- Be courteous, reliable, and able to perform routine work with a minimum of supervision; and
- Be able to understand engineering, construction and standards drawings; and
- Have achieved the Skilled Roads Worker level III rate of pay
WITHIN TWO YEARS FROM THE DATE OF APPOINTMENT TO THIS POSITION.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
- Must be physically capable to perform repetitive duties of this job, and willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
