Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager/Quality Leader, Laboratory Services, through the Team Leader, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is responsible for specimen collection which includes obtaining samples by phlebotomy or micro-sample techniques.

The MLA performs and explains procedures for ECG's and special tests i.e. Glucose Tolerance test, Sweat test etc. Availability to work in a rotating schedule to include days, evenings, nights, weekends and statutory holidays is required. Shifts are comprised of 8 and 12 hour shifts.


Qualifications:


  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of Laboratory Assistant Training Program is required.
  • Certification with Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT), MLPAO or Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) required.
  • Minimum two (2) years technical training/experience in a laboratory setting, hospital laboratory preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate proficiently, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records.
  • Satisfactory work performance and attendance record required
