The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927.

The School, which plays a criticalrole in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world.

Your opportunity:

This position will report directly to Dr.

Amaya Perez-Brumer and support three ongoing grants funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Social Science and Humanities Research Council and the United States National Institutes of Health.

All ongoing grants are being conducted in Lima, Peru and examine HIV and other sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBIs) prevalence and associate sociopolitical vulnerabilities among Venezuelan migrants who have relocated in Peru.

Grants use multiple interdisciplinary data collection procedures including bio-behaviouralsurveys, clinical testing for HIV and other STBBIs, and qualitative methods including in-depth interviews, focus groups, and ethnographic methods.


As a Research Support Officer, you will support the dissemination and collection of research surveys and questionnaires to advance our research goals.

Additionally, you will use your organization and communication skills to track progress reports, transcribe meeting minutes, and conduct systematic literature reviews.

Your excellent command of English and Spanish languages will allow for and encourage a meaningful exchange of information and help us successfully deliver on research objectives.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval.
  • Disseminating and collecting research surveys and questionnaires and conducting systematic literature reviews.
  • Synthesizing technical, qualitative, and contextual research data, including analyzing datasets.
  • Tracking and collecting information and drafting progress reports, including taking and distributing meeting minutes.
  • Monitoring project accounts, preparing financial summary and budget variance reports, and recording detailed transactions.
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish.
  • Minimum one (1) year working with healthrelated research, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting systematic literature reviews and drafting and submitting documented procedures to REB.
  • Proficiency with disseminating and collecting research surveys and questionnaires.
  • Demonstrated financial skills including preparing financial summary and budget variance reports.
  • Aptitude with analyzing datasets, including with qualitative and contextual research data.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Officesuite
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills (oral and written) with an ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with various groups
  • Ability to workindependently and as part of a team
  • Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated problemsolving skills and proven ability to meet deadlines
