Position Summary
We are currently seeking a Safety Management System (SMS) Manager to join our Quality Team located in Calgary, Alberta.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management within the department through a structural process of objective setting, performance appraisals and individual development plans as appropriate.
  • Establish an accountable SMS organization across all our Transport Canada issued Certificates through embracing and demonstrating accountable leadership principles.
  • Instill a culture of daily, weekly and monthly review of safety performance.
  • Plan, manage and maintain the SMS across all our Transport Canada issued Certificates. Ensure our processes comply with Canadian Aviation Regulation (CAR) 10
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for increasing maturity of SMS that includes development of Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance and Safety Promotion activities.
  • Ensure appropriate SMS training roll out and effective communication on safetyrelated topics, including the development of related training and communication.
  • Provide direction regarding safety assurance and process improvement activities related to product safety; address identified safety hazards through liaison across different departments as required.
  • Monitor and measure the organization's safety performance with special attention given to voiceofthecustomer related metrics. The safety of products delivered to internal and external customers are paramount to the SMS Manager, who advocates for exceptional product safety.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to make aeronautical products safer. Develop and execute strategies to improve the safety of products delivered to the customer by translating opportunities into proactive actions.
  • Manage the control of SMS documents and records. Oversee the administration of Document Control functions including maintaining document control policies and procedures as related to safety.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance in relation to the internal audit program and address any preventative and corrective action assigned in a timely manner.
  • Prepare annual budget for SMS activities, and manage the system for measuring Product Safety metrics, including leading initiatives for improvements.
Education required

  • Valid AME License or bachelor's degree in engineering or an aerospace related program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in monitoring Safety Performance through the use of metrics and performing Safety Assessments.
  • Experience and understanding of the Canadian Aviation Regulation 107. Equivalency will be granted for individuals who have experience and understanding of European, American or Military regulation related to Safety Management.
Experience required

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in aerospace engineering or maintenance.
  • Minimum 5 years of SMS related experience with pertinent regulations and international standards.
  • 3+ years experience leading a team; including managing performance, succession planning and team building.
  • CRSP or RCAF qualification as a Flight Safety Officer will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Enterprise or Material Resource Planning software (i.e., Visual Manufacturing, IFS, DRIMS, ADAM) is an asset.
  • Previous experience with SharePoint is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage conflicts.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimum supervision and direction.
