With this vision in mind and due to growth, Intact is hiring a
Director Specialty Lines Auto & Transportation to direct and execute the divisional strategies for the Specialty Lines Auto and Transportation business lines.

You will be responsible for short term and long-term objectives surrounding growth, profitability, productivity, and engagement.

This position is a full-time permanent opportunity in hybrid mode. A 3-days a week presence in the office is required. You can do this role from
Toronto or Calgary.

With these exciting goals in mind, you will:

  • Drive Specialty Lines Auto and Transportation's profitability and growth
  • Build and maintain strong relations with our brokerage network
  • Manage, provide coaching, performance feedback and facilitate continuous learning and development, career development and succession planning to a team of managers responsible for the specialty auto and transportation business.
  • Determine team goals and objectives, assign responsibilities, and provide coaching with complex and problem files requiring authorization
  • Contribute to strategic planning process for the Specialty Lines team
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, and enhance essential business processes
  • Recommend appetite direction and underwriting guidelines to drive improved or increased results through strategic analysis
  • Manage key relationships between corporate and divisional specialty solutions teams
  • Act as the team's underwriting authority on issues related to risk pricing, selection, and retention governed by the parameters of the corporate underwriting philosophy
  • Conduct audit process to verify soundness of underwriting practices and risk selection, and to identify areas for potential improvement
  • Liaise with the distribution management team, underwriting managers, national peers, corporate underwriting, and claims management on technical and administrative issues
  • In conjunction with the VP, prepare budget for annual expenses (salary, operating, etc.) and achieve established annual budget
  • Provide monthly/weekly updates, when required, to Vice President on all operation issues, including results/production, staffing, expenses and market threats, underwriters, and internal/external business partners
  • Lead various projects
  • Be accountable for the delivery of key operational initiatives such as technology utilization, corporate liaison, product development

SKILLS/EDUCATION

  • Strong technical base in Specialty Lines Auto Lines of Business
  • Management experience in commercial or specialty insurance
  • Effective communications skills to develop and foster favorable business relationships, both internally and externally
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to focus on attention to detail
  • Leadership ability to influence and motivate people and facilitate change
  • Proven track record setting clear objectives and monitoring the progress of multiple projects against deadlines
  • Address complex problems and take calculated risks to make decisions in time sensitive situations
  • Ability to monitor competitive practices, business trends, or other developments impacting business results and recommend changes in regional practices
  • Effective communication skills to develop and foster business relationships, conduct presentations in formal settings, and resolve conflicts
  • Must demonstrate the ability to develop, mentor, and train staff and communicate effectively
  • Strong follow up and execution from projects and meetings
