Summary:


Under the direction of the Team Lead, the Sand Placement Operator (Utility Operator) is responsible for supporting the tailings/wastewater operations on a client site in a safe, productive, and efficient manner according to the scope of the project and the work method being performed.

The operator will also clean/maintain the equipment and assist with any labour task and comply with all policies and procedures.

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing


Key Focuses:


  • Support the tailings/wastewater operation on a client site through the operation of various pieces of heavy equipment; dyke, berm, and road building, culvert crossing placement, ditch building, material movement, and sand cell operations.
  • Perform manual labour as needed; fueling/lubing, basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and servicing, and any other labour tasks as required.
  • Conduct preoperational and postoperational checks on equipment, keep equipment clean, and perform any basic maintenance or troubleshooting as required.
  • Accept instructions from the Team Lead and/or Shift Supervisor as directed, adjust work and strategyaccording to changing conditions, policies, and procedures as needed.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, provide suggestions for improvement and safety.
  • Advise Team Lead or Shift Supervisor of any required maintenance or repairs of the equipment.
  • Maintain a safe disposition at all times, ensure the safety of the client site and more importantly, the safety of fellow personnel/drivers. Freeze the scene of any potential or actual incident.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and requirements as laid out by the client at all times while on the worksite.

Knowledge and Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3year Drivers Abstract. CSTS (Construction Safety Training Systems)
  • CSO or BSO or OSSA is required.
  • At least 13 years of verifiable experience in an equipment operating role within an Oilsands Mining, Civil Construction, or Earthworks environment is required.
  • Experience with a Dozer (Caterpillar D6, D7, D8 or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience with various pieces of heavy equipment such as a Dozer, Excavator, Grader,Loader, Grapple Loader, Mining Truck/Off-Highway Truck, or Articulating Truck is an asset.
  • Experience in surface mining techniques, roadbuilding, dyke building, embankments, tailings dykes, and overburden management is an asset.
  • Specific training in Heavy Equipment or verifiable hours on specific equipment is needed.
  • Understanding of tailings and sand placement work environments.
  • Ability to take direction and carry out instructions with occasional conflicting priorities and changes on shortnotice is required.
This is a full-time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB on Aurora site

Work schedule is 6 & 6 schedule; three (3) days, three (3) nights and six (6) off
