CLASSIFICATION:
Regular Support Counsellor (To support children/youth who have complex needs: autism, mental health diagnosis, developmental / physical disability, dual diagnosis, or who are deaf, blind, medically fragile or technically dependent)


PROGRAM AREA:
Children's Respite with transfer to Residential with person supported


EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY:

SKILLS, ABILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS, ETC. (as per Article 12.

02):

  • Assist in implementing complex special needs support plans and/or behaviour support plans for children who have a mental health diagnosis, a developmental / physical disability, and/or who are deaf, blind, medically fragile or technically dependent
  • Provision of creative supports and activities that enhance daily living, selfcare and interpersonal skills and promote social, leisure and community participation of child participants
  • Promote independence, selfesteem and selfconfidence of residents
  • Assist with communication and follow up with family, consultants, medical personnel, support team, etc.
  • Promote the involvement of family, volunteer and natural supports
  • Thorough and consistent completion and follow up of data collection, documentation and record maintenance to comply with all CLSL, legislative and regulatory requirements, as assigned
  • Modelling for/provision of guidance for new and existing team members, student placements and volunteers
  • Advocating for the personal rights, dignity, wellbeing and protection from harm of residents, and report infractions in accordance with policy
  • Assist in providing a healthy, clean, safe and homelike environment for all children, staff and visitors
  • Assist in taking appropriate action in the event of illness, injury or critical situations
  • Be respectful and considerate of others to create a positive work and support environment

  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to work various scheduled hours and assigned duties
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software quickly
  • Demonstrated competency in verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated understanding of, adherence to and valuing of CLSL policies, procedures, performance standards and confidentiality requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Preferred education in developmental disabilities or human services (e.g. SSW, CYW, ECE, FSW, PSW, etc.)
  • Preferred minimum one to two years' experience in various support settings with proven ability to support persons who have autism, developmental disability, dual diagnosis, physical and sensory challenges, or who are medically fragile or technically dependent
  • Current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certificate, C.P.I. Certification
  • Valid Driver's License and must have use of a vehicle for transport of individuals as necessary.

Salary:
From $22.39 per hour


Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • Holidays
