TCDSB Capital Development works with students and families, teachers and staff, consultants and contractors to provide safe, sustainable and supportive environments for learning.

The team is responsible for managing the design and construction of all new schools, building additions, childcare centres and outdoor learning spaces.

We work to create responsive learning environments that engage and care for students and provide opportunities that inspire curiosity, reflection, collaboration, lifelong learning and leadership.


Many of our staff are licensed members of the Ontario Association of Architects and support the OAA's role in promoting public appreciation of architecture and the allied arts and sciences, by promoting and improving public institutional architecture through the design of our schools.

Currently our Capital Program consists of hundreds of millions of dollars of new Capital construction, with designs by some of Canada's most renowned architects.

CRITERIA FOR AN INTERVIEW:

Minimum of a 3-year college diploma in architectural, engineering technology or building technology, or related field

Membership in the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or any related association would be an asset

Minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in construction administration, including experience in the implementation of energy efficiency, sustainable systems or building envelop upgrades

LEED AP Accreditation or similar qualification in sustainable design or eligibility to obtain

Knowledge of relevant government regulation and codes including the Ontario Building Code the Ontario Construction Act

Thorough knowledge of consultant and construction contracts and tendering procedures

Ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups including school communities, school administrators, senior staff, consultants and other stakeholders required in project/program delivery

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Works well under pressure and ability to meet tight deadlines

Strong analytical, negotiation and problem solving skills

Proficiency with a range of current software programs including Microsoft Office

Availability to work outside core office hours, as required


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Reporting to and under the direction of the Senior Manager, Project Resources, this position is responsible for the delivery of capital projects/programs and for initiatives in support of the Board's Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan, Net Zero strategy and sustainable building initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Act as a technical resource for sustainable building technology and energy efficiency systems on capital project teams

Develop and prepare detailed work scopes for consultants, prepare and participate in evaluating RFPs

Perform administrative duties related to capital projects teams: prepare reports and studies; liaise with and provide outreach to potential project proponents; utilize internal management programs for the tracking and monitoring of projects and payments; respond to requests for information internally and externally

Act as the Board representative on building projects and upgrades; provide ongoing communication, coordinate and attend project meetings with the users, project managers, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction, contractors and others that may be required to assist in the project delivery

Work in collaboration with the Supervisor, Energy Management Program in overseeing the implementation of energy efficiency projects in commitment to a path to net zero
