The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager of Recreation, the Recreation Facilities Supervisor is responsible to manage operations and use of all recreation facilities including planning, organizing, and directing of the day-to-day operations, special events and projects.

This position requires the ability to deliver a high level of customer service and deal effectively and courteously with the public, staff, and contractors in processing inquiries and complaints, provide a variety of information, and related services in a professional manner.

Responsibilities:


  • Provide ongoing leadership and support to Recreation operations staff.
  • Hire, train, develop, and assess Recreation Operators and Attendants.
  • Preparation of biweekly staff schedules.
  • Oversee Manluk Centre pool maintenance tasks related to water health/chemistry.
  • Coordinate and assist with line painting and field maintenance on all sports fields.
  • Coordinate and assist with ice installation and removal of indoor ice surfaces.
  • Liaise with Facilities on recreation facility maintenance and projects.
  • Assist with coordination of capital projects as assigned.
  • Liaise with community groups as required to meet facility needs.
  • Coordinate logistics and support for major community events within the recreation facilities.
  • Prepare written reports and compile historic and statistical records as required.
  • Coordinate and purchase materials and services within the guidelines of the purchasing policy.
  • Respond to after hour facility demands.
  • Liaise with other departments as required.
  • Administer and adhere to City of Wetaskiwin Health and Safety Policy and Programs and all other policies set by the City of Wetaskiwin.
  • Be an active and contributing member of the Recreation Department Management team, and the Community and Protective Services Division.
  • Participate in the City's Performance Management process.

Education, Qualifications, and Work Experience:


  • RFP Arena Operator I and II.
  • RFP Pool Operator I and II.
  • Three (3) years of operations and maintenance experience in a recreation facility, preferable in a municipality.
  • RFP Parks and Sports fields I and II considered an asset.
  • Supervisory/leadership training considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Proven customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with stakeholders and employees.
  • Good understanding of recreation facility operations, including pool maintenance, ice making, and sports field maintenance.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions.
  • Proven supervisory skills, ability to motivate and mentor employees, experience with employee performance management.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Strong knowledge of the OH&S Regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure and function effectively to resolve issues.
