Our Team:

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years.

With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

The Geology Team is integral for Vale's short-term and long-term operating strategy. Members of this teamwork across different locations to ensure life of mine support and sustainability. Team members are also involved in the development of geological initiatives, practices and procedures.


The Opportunity


We are currently seeking
Mining Engineering/Technologist Summer Students to join our
NAPG Sudbury Mines Engineering Department in
Sudbury, ON .

These are fixed term positions,
4 months duration , starting in
May 2023 .


The student will undertake the duties required to assist the overall engineering planning, design & ventilation design for NAPG Sudbury Mines FEL 3 and Execution projects.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences.


Additionally, in this position you will:

Key Responsibilities:


  • Execute approved Capital projects including related commissioning/ops readiness (Service Giving)
  • Assist the planning, ventilation, and surveying personnel in their daytoday activities.
  • Participate in Underground survey markups and recording ventilation flows.
  • Design engineering layouts and issuing prints for execution of work.
  • Follow Vale's Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
  • Work in both on surface and in underground environments
  • Data entry, filing, and excellent computer skills will be required.
  • You will be required to work with AutoCAD, Deswik, Ventsim, and Microsoft Office.
  • Travel to mine sites and underground travel will be required.
  • Current schedule is 5 days per week Monday to Friday 7:00am3:30pm (excluding recognized holidays)

About You

Education:


  • Currently enrolled in a Mining Engineering undergraduate program or Mining Engineering Technology/Technician program.

Requirements:


  • Must be willing to go underground.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products to include Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook. Basic to intermediate proficiency in Deswik or other mine planning software preferred.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
  • Organizational, interpersonal communication, strong analytical and problemsolving skills and a proven safety record are essential.
  • Maintain a high level of professional conduct.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
  • Complete assigned projects safely and on time
  • Must be located within the Greater Sudbury region.
