WHY WE NEED YOU? GLAD YOU ASKED...


As the Climate Writer/ reporter, you will be responsible for sourcing, writing, and posting digital assets for The Weather Network's climate site.

Using editorial judgment and skills as a journalist, and working closely with the rest of the climate team, you will generate and package together news and video assets on our CMS (content management system) and contribute to climate coverage across digital platforms.

The role will include researching and writing original content, collaborating with video editor on video assets for stories, building freelance and partner stories in the CMS, and some optimizing on the climate site.


WHAT'S THE DAY TO DAY LIKE?:


  • Source, write, and coordinate articles that aligns with climate mandate
  • Write and publish original content to The Weather Network's climate platforms.
  • Communicate with Climate Editor on pitches, assignments, and coordinate publishing priorities.
  • Source images and build content in CMS.
  • Source and post content from thirdparty providers that fits with content strategy.
  • Monitor analytics and ensure daily objectives are being met.
  • Coordinate with video editor on gathering assets and building scripts for climate videos.
  • Conduct interviews with sources and experts upon for stories.
  • Responsibilities and duties may evolve and change over time._

WE ARE HOPING YOU HAVE:


  • Excellent news judgment and storytelling skills. Experience covering topics such as climate change, environmental, sustainability, adaptation, conservation, etc.
  • Ability to write headlines, choose photos/videos and package content quickly and accurately in a fastpaced, deadlinedriven environment.
  • Knowledge of weather, the environment, and global geography.
  • Understanding of multiple digital formats an asset but not required.
  • Experience using a CMS for digital publishing.
  • Basic HTML and Photoshop skills an asset.
  • Video production skills an asset.
  • Knowledge of JW Player or other video CMS an asset but not required.
  • Knowledge of the weather, the environment and global geography. Social media savvy.
  • Team player with the ability to follow direction, as well as work without supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and effectively prioritize tasks.
