Position Summary
Job Type:
Full-time, Temporary - One year term
Hours of Work:
8:30 am to 4:30 pm with occasional evenings and weekends

Key Responsibilities
- Provides case and file management by assisting clients and families through legal family matters.
- Provides culturally safe alternative procedures when dealing with legal family matters through mediation, family group conferences and circles.
- Makes appropriate referrals to programs, including cultural resources, to ensure clients and families are receiving the best possible support for their matters.
- Liaises with client's family members and significant others.
- Collaborates with children and youth involved in family and child protection matters.
- Attends and participates in any relevant meetings, conferences, or workshops.
- Raises community awareness about Family Law, the program's services, and the rights of Indigenous people under the _Family Law Act _and other statutes such as the _Child, Family and Community Service Act._
- Works and collaborates with Indigenous Elders, community partners, family lawyers, court workers, Ministry of Children and Family Development, Parents Legal Centres, Family Justice Counsellors, delegated agencies and other social service organizations in the qathet region.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrates passion and knowledge of restorative justice and the principles and philosophy of Tla'amin laws and practices.
- Demonstrates ability to take initiative and works independently with limited supervision.
- Demonstrates respect for individuals and groups, with an understanding of the Tla'amin Nation culture.
- Demonstrates emotional intelligence, cultural humility, and traumainformed practice.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, listening, and public speaking skills.
- Demonstrates effective written communication skills.
- Experience with organizing events and facilitating meetings and workshops.
- Administrative skills that include report writing, filing, preparation of minutes, etc.
- General knowledge of the family justice system.
- Available to work evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications
- Relevant postsecondary education and/or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to be registered as a mediator in accordance with the _Family Law Act._
- Police Information Check deemed satisfactory
- Valid BC driver's license, Driver's Abstract, and reliable vehicle
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Occasional travel to attend meetings, workshiops and events or training as required.
