JOB SUMMARY
The Program Essentials Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and delivery curriculum and programming of the Program Essentials program which is a part of the post-secondary experience at Neeginan College of
Applied Technology.

The Program Coordinator is responsible to the development of programming that assists students in developing and expanding on the knowledge & skills necessary to successfully complete a college-level training program as well as enhancing student self-awareness, realize the benefits of health and wellness, understand Indigenous history and culture.

The Program Coordinator also focuses on programming that ensures students learn excellent study-habits, financial management strategies, the nine essential skills, career readiness and soft skills development.

The position will coordinate program activities to help participants learn to manage their basic needs, to manage their personal health, to manage their personal issues and contacts, and to engage them to actively and positively participate as members in their community.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Design Essential Skills programming to adult learners that meets individual needs.
  • Create an innovative and supportive learning environment.
  • Facilitate the practice and learning of new behaviours so participants are able to learn new coping strategies and can successfully complete training requirements.
  • Provide supervision, leadership and coordination to Program Essentials staff.
  • Manage human resources issues with support from the Human Resource department such as: recruitment and selection of staff, progressive discipline, administering the Collective Agreement, performance evaluations, professional development, policies and delegation.
  • Prepare reports and regular program statistics.
  • Provide group and oneonone training in the areas of career readiness, life skills, workforce survival, and other relevant skills required for success in their chosen career path.
  • Support the goals and objectives of the Neeginan College of Applied Technology and CAHRD, specifically with development, assessment, and production of learning materials produced by participants.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Education or Social Work degree preferred.
  • Relevant training and experience in adult education, Indigenous community development and training in essential skills.
  • An acceptable combination of education and training may be considered.
  • CAHRD requires all of its employees be fully vaccinated against Covid19; proof of vaccination is required prior to signing of employment contract.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong project management skills including creating, planning, and implementing program outcomes.
  • Excellent and effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS-Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated counseling skills with ability to engage clients; experienced working in a postsecondary environment and with Indigenous adult learners.
  • Knowledge of the Winnipeg urban Indigenous population and community resources.
  • Analytical thinker with strong problemsolving skills; methodical with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to form partnerships and engage people.
