Job Details

As a Recreation Aide, you will:


  • Work in a teambased environment to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist.
  • Support your team by:
  • Organizing and overseeing patients/clients/residents on outings,
  • Coordinating the portering of patients/clients/residents to and from the activity,
  • Demonstrating techniques of recreation activities,
  • Carrying out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities to enable patients/clients/residents to maintain maximum potential for independence,
  • Providing functional direction to volunteers,
  • Evaluating and reporting relevant observations of patient's/client's/resident's progress/participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team,
  • Organizing furnishings and equipment for designated activities,
  • Maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies,

Qualifications:


Education & Experience:


  • Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Requirements:


  • Graduate from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate or diploma program
  • Experience in a senior's focused recreation department is an asset.
  • Basic First Aid Certificate (Current).
  • Food Safe Course or equivalent (Current).
  • Proof of COVID vaccination

What you will be responsible for:


  • Carries out established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, games, etc.
  • Assists residents to and from programs as required.
  • Assists encourages and motivates residents/tenants to participate and provide personal care during recreational activities as required.
  • Observe, report, and document any changes, in residents, to the supervisor and/or nurse.
  • Ensures recreational equipment and supplies are used, maintained, and stored in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to supervisor.

Knowledge & Abilities:


  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
