Reporting to the Manager, Program Operations, the Surface Operator is responsible for operating machinery on a daily basis to ensure that the playing surfaces meet or exceed a high standard for all user groups (i.e. - guests, customers and the public).

The Surface Operator supports the recreational facilities by ensuring that all facility areas are clean, healthy and are considered safe environments for all.

Other functions include the cleaning and maintenance of the playing surface; assisting with the sports Facility; and the set-up and take down for public and private functions.


We have 2 shifts available:

  • Saturday & Sunday 8am5pm. and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 5pm1am
  • Wednesday to Sunday 5pm1am

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Conduct thorough and proper ice making and maintenance by:
  • Preparing facility for surface installation of ice, turf, and hard courts
  • Conducting surface checks
  • Ensuring conservation measures are followed and identifying and controlling risks.
  • Tracking and maintaining surface supplies and equipment
  • Performing regard checks and maintenance for playing surface equipment
  • Operating various surface equipment
  • Converting playing surfaces as needed
  • Maintaining facility cleanliness and ensuring all equipment is in good order through proper repairs and maintenance.
  • Documenting and communicating issues as needed and maintaining all procedure required records.
  • Assisting trades and facility engineers in the maintenance of plumbing and heating systems
  • Performing other duties as allocated.

Requirements:


WHAT IT TAKES

  • Grade 12 or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
  • Previous experience in performing the function of ice making and sport surface maintenance is an asset.
  • Experience in multitasking, working in a fastpaced environment and adaptable to change.
  • Knowledge of ice making, and sport surface maintenance is an asset.
  • Knowledge of labour code, work standards and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to operate various playing surface equipment & Scissor lift is an asset.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of WHIMIS program is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong decisionmaking skills required.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment as required.
  • Push and pull force (up to 110 pounds).
  • Stand up lifting (up to 70 pounds).
  • Weight carry (up to 120 pounds).
  • Overhead lift/pull down (up to 50 pounds)
  • Frequent overhead reaching, forward reaching, stooping, repetitive bending, walking, sitting, balance, eye/hand coordination, neck range of motion.
  • Moderate simple and firm grasping of objects.
  • The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and may lift, push, or pull up to 45 pounds.
  • May work odd or long hours at a time to complete operational requirements, projects or to participate in or coordinate evening and offhour activities.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the duration of employment.
  • Note that this position is an inscope position under the RWDSU Collective Agreement.
