The Program Planning Specialist (Complex Behaviours) shall be responsible for supporting Learning Support (Resource) and Classroom Teachers with the implementation of strategies and practices that lead to an effective, relational, inclusive classroom.


The Program Planning Specialist (Complex Behaviours) will assist in problem-solving with the Learning Support (_Resource_) and Classroom Teachers around student and classroom needs to enhance practices for an effective Tier 1 classroom.


The Program Planning Specialist (Complex Behaviours) will work as part of a team in supporting schools with programming for challenging and complex behaviours.

The Program Planning Specialist (Complex Behaviours) will report directly to the Coordinator of Student Services.


Training/Qualification/Experience

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of and experience with using the _UDL framework, Problem and Project Basedlearning, Response to Intervention, Differentiated Instruction, evidencebased practices;_
  • Demonstrates an accurate understanding of the program planning process and how to implement effective documented adaptations, IPP's, behaviour and other plans;
  • Adept at building solid, authentic relationships with students and staff;
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom and student management skills;
  • Knowledge of and experience with using current, effective highleverage practices in a classroom _(Tier 1 classroom strategies)_;
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of and experience in implementing Tier 1, 2 and 3 supports within a _MultiTiered System of Supports_;
  • Demonstrates solid skills in planning (backward design) assessment for and of learning and the development of next steps for learners;
  • Demonstrates ability to observe, identify and make recommendations for effective strategies, routines and classroom procedures;
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively and accurately collect data (FBA's, tracking tools);
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of behaviour principles and methods/strategies for positively changing behaviour;
  • Accurately and effectively uses student data to analyze and develop next steps for student learning;
  • Has a clear understanding of inclusive education and how to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom;
  • Has thorough knowledge in how students learn (multiple intelligences and preferred learning styles);
  • Demonstrates ability to work successfully in a team environment, and as a teacher coach/mentor;
  • Demonstrates ability to work with and communicate effectively; through strong interpersonal, oral and written skills with students and staff within the AVRCE;
  • Has experience and knowledge in planning, organizing, and facilitating professional development sessions;
  • Other duties as required.

Training/Qualifications/Experience:


  • Valid Nova Scotia Teaching License is required;
  • A minimum of five years of successful classroom experience is required;
  • A minimum of five years of successful resource experience, including working with students with complex behaviours, is an asset.

Open Vacancy Round Hiring

  • The Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education will conduct teacher interviews commencing on July 4 for the Open Vacancy hiring round.
