People and Culture Business Partner

Full Time Permanent

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Hybrid Position


This exciting opportunity will put you in a position to be a key influencer and trusted partner for leaders across the organization.

Developing and building strong relationships, you will help drive the MCC strategy, ensure a diverse, equitable and inclusive (DEI) working experience, develop employee engagement strategies, support employee relations, provide coaching and guidance to our leaders, develop career and succession plans, and engage in workforce planning.

Having a pulse on the organization and working with the People Operations team, you will be a key contributor in the development and evolution of our People programs and act as a change agent in driving MCC's cultural evolution.


What you'll do

  • Regular meetings with leaders and staff across the organization to build relationships, learn the business and its challenges and support the people agenda
  • Provide counsel and leadership support as employee relations issues arise, develop conflict resolution plans, and assist with employee mediation and coaching
  • Consult and coach leaders on workforce planning activities including identification and design of new jobs, recruitment, and terminations
  • Support the development and implementation of the employee DEI and engagement strategies
  • Develop leadership reference documentation to support new program development and ongoing needs from the leadership team
  • Identify talent and create leaning plans to promote career development and succession planning
  • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders to instill a feedback culture that creates a safe and inclusive environment for employees and leaders to have open discussions
  • Lead workplace investigations ensuring compliance with MCC's policies and legal obligations
  • Evolve how we support our employees and leaders in our new hybrid world of working
  • Collaborate with Communications in developing communication plans to keep leaders and staff informed and engaged
  • With your grass roots understanding of the MCC's culture and employee engagement levels, be a voice at our table to consult on people projects and initiatives, driving alignment with corporate priorities

What you need to succeed

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an HR Generalist and/or Business Partner providing a wide range of HR functions (employee relations, DEI values, performance management, employee engagement, learning & development)
  • Quick to connect at building relationships and comfortable providing advice at the leadership level
  • Demonstrated experience with change management and driving organizational cultural change

Technical Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of employment and Human Rights legislation
  • Excellent knowledge of HR best practices
  • Adept at conflict resolution and mediation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to facilitate discussions

Competencies

  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to garner trust
  • Capacity to engage and influence others
  • Comfortable working at a high level of autonomy as well as part of a team
  • Strong critical thinking and problemsolving skills

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in HR Management or equivalent
  • CHRP/CHRL or working towards it

Language

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; bilingualism in French is an asset
