Pharmacy Technician
in the
Odette Cancer Centre - Pharmacy department at our
Bayview campus.

Summary of Duties
We currently have a regular full-time Pharmacy Technician position available in the Odette Cancer Centre Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician duties are split between a specialized retail pharmacy setting and a sterile compounding area for chemotherapy.

Responsibilities include tasks such as delivery of chemotherapy from pharmacy to chemo unit, filling individual patient prescriptions, including those for clinical trials received via computer or directly from patients in the retail pharmacy, dispensing new drug orders and performing the necessary functions, using multiple software programs, while meeting pharmacy standards for accuracy and speed; being able to complete sterile product preparation for chemotherapy, utilizing aseptic technique; and being able to complete the necessary mathematical calculations and translating these calculations to the proper equipment to ensure accurate weight and volume measurement in the preparation of products.

Other technician duties included are inventory management, ordering and receiving of drugs and supplies, and management of various special billing procedures for both retail pharmacy drugs as well as intravenous chemotherapy agents.


Qualifications/Skills

  • Current licensure by the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Retail pharmacy experience preferred
  • Knowledge of retail pharmacy computer systems such as Kroll an asset
  • Able to work in a fastpaced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
  • Selfmotivated and able to take initiative
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Reliable
  • Customer service skills and empathetic manner
  • Experience in aseptic medication preparation an asset
  • Knowledge of hospitalbased oncology computer systems an asset
