Reporting to the Manager, Genetics Lab, the Technical Specialist will work to provide cutting edge technology with the goal of increasing capacity, breadth of testing and decreased turnaround times.


Responsibilities:


  • Perform assay validation and optimization of commercial and lab developed tests including risk assessments as required
  • Consultation on test method selection for validations
  • Develop computer based tools to improve and automate data analysis
  • Maintain and upgrade software resources
  • Assist in trouble shooting of equipment and/or assay failures
  • Development of Standard Operating procedures
  • Responsible for training of staff with new assays and/or changes to existing methods
  • Organize and provide education sessions
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives

Qualifications:


  • Completion of a Masters of Science Degree (MSC) in Genetics or a related field.
  • Completion of a Doctorate ( PhD) in Molecular Biology or related field considered an asset
  • Two (2) years recent training/work in a Genetics Lab
  • Experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory considered an asset
  • Technical expertise in a broad range of molecular biology methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience in training staff
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and make decisions based on knowledge/experience required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office required
  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task, prioritize effectively deliver to deadline
  • Experience/knowledge of laboratory processes and hospital operations is an asset
  • Excellent performance and attendance record required
