Your Opportunity:


This Pharmacy Technician - Home Parenteral Therapy position reports to the Manager of the Edmonton Zone Home Parenteral Therapy program.

As an integral member of the Pharmacy Department and Edmonton zone Home Parenteral Therapy program, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible and accountable for the technical aspects of drug distribution within the overall medication use process in accordance with professional standards and organization policies.

Core duties may include but are not limited to:
Order entry, preparation, repackaging, and final product checking of sterile product, and individual patient prescriptions.

Preparing hazardous and non-hazardous sterile medications, packing products, billing and reconciliation, infusion pump programming, controlled drug management and inventory control, -managing patient medication profiles, all aspects of drug procurement, inventory management and insurance claims.

Build interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with HPT Pharmacist and HPT Nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions, and distribution issues.

Ensure timely delivery of medication to patient's residence and HPT clinics within the Edmonton zone.

Support the safety of the medication distribution process, the Medication Reconciliation process through the accurate gathering and documentation of a patient Best Possible Medication History (BPMH), and other quality improvement initiatives.

Maintain department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order. Participate in special projects and programs as assigned. Maintaining department records, statistics, and preparing reports as required. Other duties as assigned.

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrates excellent organizational, decision making, teaching, time management and communication skills, reliability, and personal suitability. Proven ability to work independently as well as positively, effectively, and cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team. Prior Pharmacy Technician experience with a minimum of 2 years in a large acute care hospital setting. Recent (within the past 2 years) sterile compounding experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with computer medication order entry, IV mixture and unit dose drug distribution an asset. HPT experience preferred (within the last 12 months).
