The ACD Group conducts research related to addiction and concurrent disorders, along with developing new interventions based in e-mental health
Current projects include:
1) an opium substitution treatment trial managed at UBC and run in Iran, 2) a randomized controlled trial on micro-dosing treatment for Opioid Use Disorder, 3) a cross-sectional survey related to substance use and overdose at Vancouver General Hospital and Coast Mental Health facilities, 4) the development of the Risk Assessment and Management Platform (RAMP) as an e-health intervention for substance use and overdose, 5) the development of e-mental health resources for high-school and university students, 6) the development of an app related to the treatment of refugee trauma, and 7) the youth mental health web platform.
The Research Assistant will support research work with members of the ACD research group within the Institute of Mental Health in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia.
The Research Assistant will report to the PI, Dr. Michael Krausz.
Additional administrative and technical support will be provided by the Research Coordinator, and the incumbent will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of research scientists, research assistants, and students.
Work Performed- Support the PI with faculty reports and professional development activities (I.e. editing documents, proofreading reports, updating CVs)
- Support the Youth Strategy project lead (includes: Coast Mental Health Youth Strategy project; BC Children's Shortcut project)
Duties include:
conducting literature searches, environmental scan of solutions, summarizing reports, ensuring project deliverables are completed on time.
- Organize the environmental scan (webbased search) of current youth services and peerreviewed literature review
- Responsible for drafting and preparing regular summary reports on CMH project activities in collaboration with PI and project lead
- Supports the daytoday running of the research lab, including scheduling meetings, communicating with team members, providing timely updates to the PI on project progress.
- Support new students and volunteers (i.e. administrative procedures, onboarding new team members, setting up and sharing schedules, and reporting updates to the PI and research team)
The Research Assistant will be expected to exercise good judgement in carrying out daily tasks. New, unusual, or complex problems should be deferred to the PI and Research Coordinator.
Errors in judgement could result in loss of funding, delay study progress, harm study participants, or otherwise impact the integrity of the research.
Supervision ReceivedThe Research Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator. Daily general supervision will be provided by the Research Coordinator.
Supervision Given
None, but may support and explain procedures and tasks to new staff, students, and volunteers during onboarding. May assist with onboarding and orientation activities for new staff, students, and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree or other post secondary qualification in psychology, health sciences, statistics, or computer science is preferred.
- Experience in a health research setting would be considered an asset.
- Experience working in an administrative or research capacity at UBC would be considered an asset.

- Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet short deadlines.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.
