Group Leader- March Break Respite Camp - Toronto, Canada - Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital

There are 4 Group Leader positions available.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide an assigned group of children/youth, from one structured activity to another, as scheduled by the Program Coordinator and artists facilitating the session(s)
- Ensure safe participation of clients in the assigned group
- Provide supervision and leadership of participants, volunteers & staff assigned to the group
- Provide assistance, in conjunction with 1:1 facilitators (Client Service Assistants), Personal Support Workers and volunteers, to participants of your group as need arises (toileting, lunch supervision, activity tasks)
- Collaborate with program staff, volunteers and families to meet program goals
- Contribute to daily morning and afternoon program meetings
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, support the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advance a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum High School Diploma
- Experience working with children and youth with physical disabilities and developmental delays or equivalent
- Proven experience in preparing clients who use wheelchairs for transportation i.e, school bus
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate an asset
- ASL qualifications an asset
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and supervise volunteers and staff, e.g. one to one facilitators, nurses, and PSWs
- CPR HS (Heart Saver) must be obtained prior to first day of employment
- Must be flexible, have the ability to assess the needs of individuals and quickly respond to needs
- Proven comfort with creative arts (music, art, drama, movement) and recreation facilitation and participation
- Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with staff/clients/families/volunteers
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to efficiently manage working hours
- Sound judgment, communication and ability to work independently at times
- Ability to lift, transfer or position participants independently at times
- Ability to feed, e.g., spoon to mouth, and provide personal care for participants
- Ability to guide volunteers and one to one facilitators and PSWs
- Ability to take direction
