Description
The Cardiac Echocardiography Technologist is responsible for carrying out inpatient and outpatient echocardiograms across all KHSC sites. In addition to adult echocardiography the technologist is required to carry out paediatric and neonatal echocardiography. The technologist is responsible for proper use and maintenance of the ultrasound equipment.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • Independently perform adult transthoracic echocardiograms & Doppler
  • Independently perform paediatric and neonatal transthoracic studies
  • Independently perform exercise stress echocardiograms.
  • Assist with transesophageal echocardiograms.
  • Assist with intraoperative echocardiograms.
  • Independently perform fetal echocardiograms.
  • Ability to administer contrast for studies
  • Teach physicians as well as ultrasound students.
  • Participate in an oncall schedule.
  • Attend and give required Inservice lectures.
  • Travel to all KHSC sites, contracted sites, and satellite site as required


The Employee will adhere to the worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all times.

Where possible, take corrective action to address a hazard, otherwise report the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor.

Should the employee suffer a workplace injury or illness, he/she will advise their supervisor; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s), and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.

Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KHSC policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct.

Complies with the KHSC Commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario
  • Completion of Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program
  • RDCS registration with ARDMS an asset
  • Valid driver's licence with the willingness and ability to travel to all KHSC sites
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current certification in CPR
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check required.
