As Vitacore rapidly expands into new product lines and markets, we are looking for talented individuals to join our team to help create a larger impact in healthcare, recycling and more.


About the Role:


Vitacore Industries is looking for a keen material science post-secondary student who wants to work with an award-winning, globally recognized R&D team comprised of scientists, PhDs, and engineers.

This student will have an appetite and aptitude for all things material science and wants to gain real-life lab experience.

The term length is approximately 4 months (May 1, 2024 to the end of August, 2024) and will require in-person laboratory attendance.


Responsibilities include:


  • Develop and test the material properties of 3D hydrogels, focusing on characteristics crucial for vascular network modeling.
  • Collaborate in the optimization of resin formulations for 3D printing, balancing printability with functional properties.
  • Study the macroporosity in printed structures, evaluating its impact on cell permeation and network functionality.
  • Investigate the interaction between different hydrogel formulations and printing parameters, optimizing for highresolution and fidelity.
  • Collaborate with the biochemistry team to understand the chemical and physical interactions between resins and cells.
  • Develop protocols for assessing material performance under various conditions, including mechanical stress and biological interaction.
  • Engage in the development of new materials that meet projectspecific requirements, such as biocompatibility and mechanical strength.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of material properties, including mechanical testing and microscopy.
  • Document and report on material development processes, findings, and recommendations.
  • Participate in team meetings, providing material science insights for project decisionmaking.
  • Keep abreast of advancements in material science related to 3D printing and hydrogel technology, integrating relevant findings into the project.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary student currently in material science or related field.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status; at this time, international students with either a student or work visa are not eligible.
  • Be willing to work inperson at the Burnaby laboratory.
