    Detailed Overview
    Schedules and books appointments for patients in the Respiratory Therapy department.

    Performs secretarial duties such as receiving visitors, providing information, directing patients to the appropriate area, answering the telephone and routine inquiries.

    Performs timekeeping, secretarial, clerical, and reception duties for the Respiratory Therapy department. Responsibilities Schedules and books patient appointments by receiving appointment requests and/or patient referrals. Makes follow up appointments, adjusting arrangements as per patient and department requirements and assigning appropriate time and date. Contacts patient, physician''s office and/or nursing unit to confirm appointment. Receives visitors and provides information on the department and services. Directs visitors/patients to the appropriate area. Performs clerical duties such as responding to telephone inquiries, taking and/or relaying messages, and answers routine inquiries. Types technical and non-technical documents such as medical reports and related correspondence. Takes minutes, produces graphs and reports using applicable software. Assembles, distributes, and files reports, promotional material, manuals, and surveys as directed. Maintains personal records of staff such as contact information, addresses, name, and availability for work. Establishes and maintains staff schedules and call in relief staff as per established guidelines. Composes and signs correspondence such as confirmation of appointments and forms letters, as directed. Drafts correspondence for review and signature. Maintains timekeeping records for staff and submits information to Payroll. Receives and processes requests for leaves of absences and terminations by preparing appropriate paper work. Performs calculations to determine seniority and vacation entitlements and forwards all requests and information to the Manager for approval. Compiles workload measurement statistics. Gathers information such as minutes, files, or other material required for meetings or proposals. Assembles and updates department procedure manuals, forms, and graphs. Sets up and maintains filing system, patient care resource material and forms, correspondence, equipment, and supply records. Maintains records of office supplies and equipment inventories. Prepares requisitions for signature as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications Education and Experience Grade 12, two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    Skills and Abilities Ability to type 50 wpm. Knowledge of medical terminology Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Ability to deal with others effectively Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position Ability to organize work Ability to operate related equipment
