Working under the direction of our Maintenance Manager, our Maintenance and Grounds Technicians carry out many small repairs and minor construction projects, to protect our infrastructure.

(Larger projects are contracted out by the school.) This position supports the school program by helping to move furniture and providing event set up support.

In addition, Maintenance and Grounds Technicians are also concerned with the maintenance and upkeep of the school's facilities, including sport fields, fencing, and parking lots, etc.

At times, the Maintenance and Grounds Technician will be called on for safety duties, such as monitoring parenting drop off/pick-ups, and proactively identifying and fixing safety hazards on our campus.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Building Maintenance

  • Perform many repairs outside of those required to be done by a licensed tradesman
  • Respond to emergency situations such as leaking water lines, overflowing toilets, broken plumbing fixtures and carry out repairs or call a professional
  • Build carpentry projects, repair equipment, work with power tools
  • Ensure that all Provincial, School, Worksafe and Health Regulations are observed
  • Ensure that the work site is safe
  • Regularly inspect HVAC, Mechanical, Pool and Electrical systems and report to the manager
Exterior Grounds and Gardens

  • Maintain playgrounds and playground equipment
  • Power washing stairs and walkways
  • Basic landscape work including working with flower beds, pruning, watering and lawn mowing
  • Snow removal, salting and snow blower operation
  • The school is on a very large site and the grounds require constant upkeep year round
Safe Campus Operations

  • Monitor the campus for hazards and safety concerns (trip hazards, deteriorating tree conditions, etc.)
  • Monitor and direct traffic and one of the campus drop off/pick up locations
Furniture Moving and Deliveries

  • All parcels are delivered to a drop point and are then delivered throughout the School
  • Furniture of all types from heavy desks to student chairs and desks are frequently moved
Event Support

  • Set up for both large and small events. Includes building large staging, seating for up to 1,000 both off and onsite
  • Additional support for audio and visual set up and operations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 1
  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Class 4 Driver's License (unrestricted) would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and problemsolve
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to planning and executing work
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problemsolving skills
  • Previous landscaping experience would be an asset
  • Ability to meet the high physical demands of:
  • Exposure to inclement weather conditions
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects
  • Physical coordination and exertion in a variety of postures
  • Working in confined spaces or at heights

WORKING CONDITIONS
- up to 20 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday

  • Physical labour
