Ross Macdonald School for the Blind in the Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch is seeking interested individuals to support the 2023 Short Term Program summer music camp for one week in July.

This music camp focuses on music braille, introducing and promoting skills in braille music.

The camp is seeking five (5) individuals to host the camps and provide support to students attending the camp during the day along with providing support to the staff.

These are on-call/supply opportunities where individuals are required to as needed when the program is in effect.

What can I expect to do in this role?: You will:

  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate Short Term Placement Program session(s) for students and participants who are blind and visually impaired;
  • Prepare activities and tools for students and participants who are blind or visually impaired to enable them to completely participate in the program;
  • Promote the development of social, emotional, recreational and living skills.

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • Community college certificate and/or equivalent training, education and working experience in a child related field;
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.

Skills and Knowledge:


  • Demonstrated experience in developing, coordinating and facilitating programs for students who are blind or visually impaired;
  • Knowledge of visual impairments, training, theories and methodologies to provide instruction and implement programs for blind and visually impaired students;
  • Knowledge of technological devices to assist blind and visually impaired students;
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures to ensure safe working practices, proper standards of care and confidentiality of information;
  • Demonstrated planning, analytical, reasoning, problem solving and observation and evaluation skills to plan, implement and assess sessions;
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills.
