As part of the Transition Services, the Peer Career Assistant supports student learning and development by creating equitable, safe, and stimulating career development opportunities for international and domestic students.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Transition Services, the Peer Career Assistant supports Students to next step towards their dream career.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assess current student needs and make recommendations for future career events,
  • Organize and chair discussions between 1st and 2nd year students, panels with recent grads, etc.
  • Collaborate with employers who are seeking student feedback,
  • Maintain Career Services social media account(s)
  • Connect students to different services at NAIT when appropriate

Skills & Abilities:


  • Interest in supporting career development for students new to postsecondary and/or new to Canada.
  • Interest in supporting learning outside the classroom for the broader NAIT student community.
  • Ability to facilitate low complexity student conversations and events.
  • Ability to engage with peers in a community space and on social media.
  • Familiarity with using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with creating, editing and evaluating social media posts, stories, and video takeovers according to a social media plan.
  • Understanding of the student adjustment process and needs of firstyear students is a strong asset.
  • Commitment to supporting NAIT's student community.
  • Student leadership skills, organizational and time management skills, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Intercultural awareness
  • Good understanding of the various student services at NAIT is also an asset.

Qualifications:


  • Completion of grade twelve
  • Related postsecondary certificate or diploma
  • Several years of related experience
  • Equivalencies may be considered
  • Enrolled at NAIT as a student for Winter 2023 semester and is in good academic standing.

Remuneration:
$ $29.50 hourly plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay. (Classification - Administrative Support IV).

  • This position is covered by the AUPE (Alberta Union of Provincial Employees) Collective Agreement._
