$26.42/hour (BCGEU grid 34) + $2.50/hour as a premium for night shifts.

TYPE:
Permanent, Part-Time, 0.6 FTE

SCHEDULE:
Thursday-Saturday 4:00pm-12:00am, includes a half hour unpaid meal break

START DATE:
As soon as possible

Job requires employee to have a valid class 5 drivers license (learners and new drivers licenses are not sufficient) with a clear abstract to be able to drive for outreach visits using a MODO account OR your own vehicle. You will be reimbursed the difference between business and casual use insurance.

***This Peer Support Specialist (PSS) role is scheduled to allow them to focus on resident engagement, on-site Peer Programming and accompaniment to services, supports and community activities. This role is embedded in the larger staff team at Foxglove and is also part of the Peer Services Department. This role will work alongside and collaborate with the honorarium based peers that will be working in the peer witness room and will have fewer expectations of regular support worker functions. This role shares their own consumer knowledge and lived and living experience of mental illness / substance use to assist service users to live successfully in the community. The PSS collaborates with the service users and the staff team to determine appropriate care to meet individual needs and situational requirements. The PSS Provides clients with education, support and advocacy from a lived and living experience perspective in order to assist clients in effectively obtaining service from the staff, external service providers and community resources. The PSS Provides a variety of supports to assist service users living with mental illness / substance use such as emotional and social supports, life skills assistance, information, resources, and outreach support.

In addition to these Peer specific supports, the PSS may be required to provide front-line Support Worker duty coverage as needed.

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Foxglove Enhanced Health Housing:

The 23-unit Enhanced Health Housing floor will have dedicated medication management, psychosocial rehabilitation, support for minor medical issues and work in partnership with Fraser Health services such as Mental Health and Substance Use and Home Health.

Other hospitality services such as meals and laundry, also there will be a part-time nurse on site twenty hours a week for tenants to access.

This section of foxglove will also be staffed twenty-four hours a day over three separate shifts.

Folks in this space will have access to indigenous cultural liaisons who will create programing connected to culture and build relationships with participants.

There will be peer support specialist available seven days a week as well. The referral pathway for these twenty-three units will come from Fraser health.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Diploma in community social services
Two years of related experience with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness and/or social services.
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Current First Aid and CPR certification, Naloxone Certification

Support Worker Key Skills and Abilities - for supporting people receiving our services

Establish a dignifying and purposeful relationship with the client, contacting and getting to know the client as a unique individual, and clarifying the role of the PSS and client in the service planning process
Ability to identify and work to increase client strengths, including the use of hope inducing strategies and assisting the client in selfmanaging their illness and other aspects of their life
Informally teach harm reduction, life skills
Respond to problematic behaviour using an understanding of the behaviour's context and function
Knowledge of the integrated concurrent disorders recovery model for working with chronically homeless individuals
Knowledge of mental health diagnoses, medications, treatment and support resources
Knowledge of the biopsychosocial addictions model, including stages of change and harm reduction
Knowledge of diagnoses, treatment and support resources in the areas of substance use, physical health, HIV and Hepatitis C
Knowledge of the housing continuum, including supported housing systems and program models for special needs populations
