Nestled within the beautiful Rocky and Purcell Mountains, in the southeast corner of British Columbia, the East Kootenay region is a four-season destination.

The region boasts unlimited year-round outdoor recreation including skiing, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, mountaineering, white-water rafting and snowmobiling.

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) serves over 60,000 permanent residents and approximately 25,000 to 30,000 seasonal residents. The region is diverse, home to several unincorporated communities, eight municipalities and four First Nations communities.

The Regional District of East Kootenay is looking for an experienced GIS Mapping Technician.

Under the supervision of the Engineering Services Manager, the GIS Mapping Technician performs technical work to implement and maintain the digital mapping system as part of the overall Geographic Information System (GIS).

This position is based out of the Cranbrook office.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two year diploma.
  • One year advanced diploma in Geographic Information Systems.
  • Three years Geographical Information Systems experience.
  • BC Driver's License.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Engage effectively with fellow employees, the public and outside agencies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of computerbased mapping systems.
  • Knowledge of GIS software and other related software.
  • Knowledge of a Global Positioning System.
  • Organize work schedule to meet deadlines and priorities.
  • Work safely on job sites.
This is a temporary, full-time (35 hours per week) Union position with a starting hourly rate of $37.93/hour.
