GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Reporting to the Manager, Children and Youth Services, the Youth Engagement Worker will plan, develop and implement all aspects of the youth program.

The worker develops and delivers high quality programs primarily to youth ages 13 to 29 of diverse cultures and from low-income families.

Collaborates with staff, clients and agencies to promote, plan and deliver engaging recreational, social and educational programs. This position is part of
CUPE Local 7797 and reports to the Manager, Children and Youth Services. It requires flexible hours and evening/weekend work.


MAJOR DUTIES:


  • Develop, implement, promote and evaluate social, educational and recreational activities for youth ages 13 to 2
  • Coordinate and supervise program participants and volunteers on and offsite while on outings and trips
  • Maintain excellent communication and positive relations with participants, family members, staff and agencies
  • With support of Manager ensure that appropriate record keeping is maintained and prepare required reports, evaluations and budgets
  • Prepare healthy snacks and drinks as per Canada's Food Guide, following safe food handling guidelines.
  • Facilitate and participate in staff training, meetings, planning and evaluation sessions
  • Outreach for the purpose of partnership and capacity building, referral, networking and promotion
  • Connect with schools to coordinate programs and to stay current with youth issues
  • Provide general information and referral services to participants on recreation, housing, preemployment, education, health and other services and advocate for youth and parents.
  • Seek funding in collaboration with the Manager to ensure the current sustainability and viability of programs
  • Support the evaluation of youth programming and initiatives to ensure access, promote participation and determine best practices in program delivery
  • Support youth in navigating systems such as education, justice, housing etc. and advocate on their behalf as required.
  • Support advocacy issues that impact the youth in collaboration with other service providers and agencies in order to affect systemic change
  • This position may supervise students and volunteers

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Degree or diploma in a related field (i.e. Social Work, Child & Youth Work, Recreation), and/or equivalent work experience and/or lived experience.
  • Experience working with children, youth and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or willing to be trained
  • Demonstrated skill in delivering programming for youth in recreational and physical activities
  • Ability to develop, facilitate and deliver lifeskills and wellbeing workshops on emerging issues and trends impacting youth
  • Experience working in a team environment demonstrating a selfreflective, collaborative and nonjudgmental practice.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the social determinants of health and how they impact the development of youth from culturally diverse and lowincome communities.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills to address and promote antioppression, access, equity and social inclusion.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to prepare reports, schedules and outreach materials.
  • Conflict Prevention Intervention certification or willing to be trained
  • Conflict Mediation and restorative justice training certification or willing to be trained
  • Food handling certification or willing to be trained

Salary:
$22.65 per hour
