DRPT-2023: Contemporary Painting
September 6, December 6, 2023; Monday, 8:30 - 11:30PM; In-Person Delivery

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course examines the relevant issues and ideas associated with the production of paintings in our contemporary world. This involves an exploration of painting as a network of signs and discourses within an expanded practice. Additional emphasis is placed on the accountability and the ethics of image making. Drawing on readings, artists talks and discourses with guest speakers, students engage in short written responses, and studio work. Discussions explore the potential that painting holds to look to the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support students in their learning through individual or small group instruction and/or assisting with assignments; marking and grading; meet regularly with the faculty; work with faculty and other academic staff in support of the University's educational goals and objectives; participate in the provision of a safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Teaching Assistants are hired annually on a per-course basis with fixed-term annual contracts renewable to a maximum of 3 years.

Please note:

One cannot hold both a Teaching Assistant and Faculty Appointment within the same semester.
If you are a work or study permit holder, please note a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and Canadian bank account is a condition of employment.

HOURS OF WORK:
Approximately 10 hours per week, to be finalized based on enrollment.

COMPENSATION:
$33.78 per hour 6% in lieu of benefits plus vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
