THE OPPORTUNITY


Western Forest Products is hiring for a
Commodity Sales Representative to join our
Sales & Marketing team based in
Vancouver, BC.



What You'll Do:

As a key member of the Sales & Marketing team, you will be tasked with executing on the successful sales strategy for Western Forest Products' (WFP's) North American (NA) commodity segment.

You will identify the optimum sales channels for selling the full mix of WFP's commodity targeted product lines to selected customers that maximizes margin and creates long-term success in the markets in which WFP sells to.


Work Environment:
This role is to be performed in person at our Vancouver Corporate Office.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales:


  • Responsible for selling a complete mix of NA commodity product lines to the monthly and quarterly forecasts and identifying programs with selected customers where possible.
  • Developing regional and customer sales plans annually and executing on monthly and quarterly targets to achieve the annual plan
  • Developing programs of scale and size as well as strategic partnerships
  • Communicates accurate pricing, identifies competitor products and relative pricing, and utilizes that information to develop WFP's pricing strategy.
  • Works closely with the divisions to identify offers and order files based on the outturn estimates for lengths and grades.
  • Ensures that unsold volumes ideally do not develop but managing those items that do develop on to daily lists; ensures that there is no aged unsold inventory on the ground.
  • Manages daily offer lists and updates pricing daily, weekly and monthly or as required depending on the program or product lines.
  • Building sales volumes and values by optimal customer channel type
  • Understanding and utilizing sales negotiation techniques

Market Analysis and Trade Shows:


  • Regular, indepth market analysis to be continually undertaken by monitoring key market indicators, researching publications and reports and compiling and comparing pertinent data for their market segments and regions to develop forward strategies
  • Maintains a keen awareness of their customers' needs and understand competitors' positions and alternative product lines in the marketplace, all to help better position WFP's sales and marketing strategy and efforts in each region of the segment.
  • Attendance at all applicable trade shows and industry events, along with travelling to the key markets and visiting customers on a regular basis, or as required.
  • Benchmarking pricing against competitor and substitute product lines

Customer Service and Administration:


  • Ensures excellent customer service is clearly defined for the segment with the Manager, Sales.
  • Ensures open order and shipment status updates are provided to their customers on an ongoing basis.
  • Works closely with the Supply Control team to ensure that ontime shipping is tracked, monitored and that improvements are made to maintain the minimum expected levels of service.
  • Works with the Manager, Sales, Superintendent, Quality Assurance and operational divisions to ensure the minimum quality assurance standards are met. They will resolve claims with customers per the WFP policy on claims and claims management.
  • Work closely with sawmill divisions to sell a suite of products that consistently return margin to our business
  • Understand products and their end uses, and be able to communicate those both internally and externally
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • A post secondary degree in Wood Products Processing or Business is preferred, or equivalent work experience
  • 13 years in a sales role, ideally in the lumber industry
  • A lumber grading certificate is an asset
