Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta's full-service communications, public relations and marketing department. Its mandate is to enhance communications between Albertans and the Government of Alberta.
CPE's expert staff provide specialized services across the spectrum of communications including writing, social media, media relations, event coordination, issues management, crisis communications, digital communications, advertising, marketing, graphic design, public engagement and translation services.
Role Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Public Opinion Research, this position helps the Alberta government understand the attitudes and values of Albertans and identify their needs and expectations of government policy and programs.
Having a deep understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as expert knowledge in advanced analytical and statistical techniques, the Assistant Director will support the Director of Public Opinion Research in providing strategic advice on research design and generating insight on public opinion and behaviours to support evidence-based decision making.
- Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Conducting professional public opinion research on behalf of the government.
- Supporting the Director of Research in managing research projects.
- Ensuring accountability for corporate research services, including procurement process compliance identification of research tools, compliance to FOIP, government, and professional research standards.
- Supporting research capacity development in government.
- Supervising research staff.
- Maintaining best practices and continuous improvements in research innovation.

Qualifications:
- Requirements:
- University graduation in a related research field including arts, social sciences, public relations, economics, statistics, political science.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience related to applied research in public/private sector, including involvement with public opinion research, program evaluation, quantitative and qualitative research methodology, survey design and theory, data collection and statistical analysis, and project management.
- Equivalencies:
- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Master's or equivalent experience in applied social sciences is preferred.
