Manager, Student Accessibility - Fred Smithers Centre for Student Accessibility (Fred Smithers Centre) to join our
Student Affairs and Services team.

Job Information and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Student Affairs and Services, the Manager, Student Accessibility - Fred Smithers Centre will:

  • Oversee the day to day operation of the Fred Smithers Centre, creating a collaborative work environment. Ensure staff are engaged in professional development, best practices are in place around exam accommodation, accurate records are kept and stored appropriately.
  • Develop policies and protocols for the Fred Smithers Centre ensuring accessibility issues are addressed/equity access to services for student.
  • Oversee the intake, and that test/exam and accommodations processes are followed, documented appropriately and meets best practices/evidencebased practices around accessibility.
  • Develop goals, assessment strategies, learning outcomes and statistical reporting.
  • Participate on the Accessibility Committee on campus as well as engaging in provincial, regional and national committees as appropriate.
  • Develop and participate in collaborative research with SMU Faculty/off campus partners to advance the experiences of students with accessibility concerns.
  • Ensure departments at the University are aware and following the provincial accessibility framework, offering guidance and best practices to them.
  • Work with Assistant Director, Senior Director and the Advancement Office to maintain positive donor relationships.
  • Develop, submit, monitor and manage the department budget(s).
  • Submit grants and proposals for external funding agencies/organizations.

Experience and Education Requirements
To be the successful Manager, Student Accessibility - Fred Smithers Centre you will have:

  • Masters degree in Psychology, Adult Education or Social Work.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' directly related experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience/leadership in a complex case environment around accessibility related issues.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including assistive technologies.
  • Crosscultural working experience.
  • Proven ability to promote collaboration and build partnerships.
