General Accountabilities:


  • Assist in the creation of a model of power system components in an offline database to be used in an Energy Management System (EMS)

Assets include:
familiarity of the bulk electricity system of the province of Ontario, symbology within an electrical schematic diagram.

  • Assist in the coordinating the update of the power system model and displays of the energy management system used in a control centre by system operators.
  • Assist in the development of scripts for querying databases, as well as text based data files. This requires familiarity with script programming, especially Perl.
  • Ensure systems are operated in accordance with established security practices.
  • Assist in performing and coordinating software changes, upgrades, user testing, and training.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and plans.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of issues with configuration files and software binaries.
  • Maintain and operate multiple environments for use in development, testing, training, and live/backup production operations.
  • Use software version control tools and follow established software build processes to build, test and deploy software, database, and display releases.
  • Use the OT Operations IT Service Management (ITSM) platform to develop operational reports and follow established process control procedures to manage incidents, changes, and problems.
  • Create/maintain configuration items (CIs) within the OT Operations Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • Assist with development of Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data quality validation criteria and execute centralsite synchrophasor software testing procedures.
  • Execute projects and assist project teams involved in upgrades and enhancements of supported Tx/Dx systems and operating tools.
  • Coordinate remote and onsite technical support by thirdparty vendor personnel and facilitate purchase and maintenance of software licenses.
  • Work with vendors, consultants, and crossfunctional internal teams to help assess, design, and test standard products available within the core EMS / Modeling software suite. Help update existing software to displace existing custom code with standard product functionality, or convert existing custom code to suit new EMS software architecture.
  • Work with technical mentors and coaches to advance individual professional development.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:


Eductaion:


  • Requires 4year university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Technical knowledge in use of an offline modeling system, specifically knowledge of the GE Network Model Manager and GE Source.
  • Technical knowledge of EMS software and systems, specifically knowledge of the GE Energy Management System.
  • Familiarity with Control Room operations and processes.
  • Understanding of the ITIL framework and experience working with Change Management, Knowledge Management, Incident Management, and Problem Management processes.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and experience using Kanban boards.
  • Familiarity with test management platform.
  • Familiarity with software release and sustainment processes involving database updates and display changes.
  • Knowledge of databases and experience with data analysis and report preparation.
  • Knowledge of onpremise computer technology, equipment configurations and operating systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience:


  • Experience developing software using various programming and scripting languages.
  • Experience providing technical support to users of operational software and hardware and knowledge of control room operations.
  • Experience providing technical support to users of operational software and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
