Major Responsibilities:


  • Collecting relevant medical and accommodation information required from the employee and workplace parties and rendering STD eligibility decisions
  • Informing workplace parties of their rights and obligations under the Disability Management Program
  • Responding to any enquiries that workplace parties may have regarding STD entitlement
  • Communicating verbally and in writing decisions regarding entitlement
  • Liaising with workplace parties, service providers, and other resources for input, opinions and assistance in rendering initial entitlement decisions regarding STD benefits
  • Identifying cases where obstacles or barriers to recovery or RTW exist and referring to the Disability Management Consultant, appropriate interventionists and/or other workplace parties for more indepth assessment, planning, intervention and action
  • Participate in the design, development and ongoing refinement of the internal disability management program, special events, and activities to educate and inform staff
  • Mediate and attempt to resolve disputes relating to STD entitlement and duration decisions with employees
  • Handle requests for reconsideration and if appealed commencing the process to handle objections
  • Monitor progress of assigned STD claims and providing workplace parties status updates
  • Participate in case conferences and return to work meetings with Disability Management Consultant(s) and workplace parties
Coordinate, administer and support the Healthy Workplace Centre STD claims intake processes by:

  • Overseeing the intake/referral and file creation of Short Term Disability Claims (STD) by receiving the claim referral via CARE/HWC hotline referral/walk-ins, identifying the appropriate claim allocation based on claim information and using appropriate systems to log and refer STD claim
  • Identify, prioritize and allocate any irregular Day 4 Notifications for STD consideration (i.e., planned surgeries/emergencies, etc.)
  • Conduct quality control audits of STD claims by tracking claims activity and data input to a HWC SharePoint site
  • General STD claims administration such as preparing STD letters, labels and HWC wellness packages
  • Receiving, documenting and filing WSIB incident reports and Form 7s from managers using various systems
  • Report WSIB lost time claims information to WSIB (The Agency) as required
  • Assisting in WSIB Board Employee Claims process and providing support in monitoring and tracking lost time reporting
  • Managing the HWC Records Information Management system for file retention/retrieval of both offsite and onsite information requests (such as legal counsel, grievance requests)

Job Requirements:


1) Education requirements:

  • Postsecondary degree/diploma in healthrelated or disability management field

2) Experience:

  • 2+ years of related disability management
3) Technical or Professional Qualifications or Certifications / Designations:

  • CDMP (NIDMAR)
