Major Responsibilities:


  • Cleans and sanitizes ambulances and emergency response vehicles, such as but not limited to routine and deep cleaning of vehicles.
  • Cleans and sanitizes equipment, response bags, bins, etc.
  • Safely contains and removes biohazardous waste and garbage.
  • Receives and cleans contaminated uniforms and distributes clean uniforms to Paramedics.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties within the garage and work site.
  • Prepares and restocks response bags, bins and vehicles.
  • Maintains appropriate stock levels and inventories, ensuring that equipment is rotated and serviced to maximize efficiency through reduced downtime and equipment availability.
  • Performs outbound shipment preparation; inbound shipment receiving inspection, receipt, storage and warehousing duties for ministores at Multi-Function station.
  • Conducts inventory/supply audits for ministores as needed at Multi-Function station.
  • Replaces/removes old, expired or broken packaging in vehicle inventories, such as but not limited to, linen, oxygen tanks, consumable medical supplies and medications.
  • Maintains, repairs, and tests equipment in a timely manner in accordance with Ministry of Health and manufacturers' requirements.
  • Conducts routine maintenance on specialized paramedic and ambulance equipment, such as but not limited to, cardiac monitors, power stretchers, nonpowered stretchers, stair chairs, scoop stretchers, oxygen equipment, suction equipment, glucometers, traction splints, extraction devices and other patient care and vehicle equipment.
  • Continuously inspects equipment to ensure it is in good working order and is maintained according to the required maintenance schedule.
  • Develops and implements, under direction from the supervisor, sound preventative maintenance programs for the division's emergency equipment.
  • Exchanges defective equipment and records replacement transaction.
  • Identifies vehicles and equipment scheduled for preventative maintenance and removes/replaces from service.
  • Inputs data to maintain database records including, inventory movement, equipment inspections and maintenance, and vehicle inspections and maintenance.
  • Recharges, conditions and rotates batteries for equipment.
  • Operates and fuels vehicles, performs Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) circle checks and performs minor maintenance on vehicles, (e.g., installs headlights, wipers, emergency light bulbs).
  • Operates various hand, pneumatic and power tools.
  • Ensures vehicles are connected to shore power supplies when not in operational use.
  • Prepares and presents training programs and assists in the preparation and maintenance of training aids for other staff (e.g., staff in Equipment Services, Garage, Stores and Paramedics).
  • Recommends to supervisor such changes as may be required to improve efficiency, effectiveness and performance.
  • Receives, stocks and distributes products, equipment and noncontrolled medications within the division.
  • Performs tasks related to quality assurance and quality control measures to ensure compliance with provincial Acts and Regulations, Municipal Bylaws, Standard Operating
  • Procedures and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) Certification standards (e.g., minimum required supplies, expiration dates).
  • Completes reports (e.g., Driver's Collision/Incident Report) related to assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Works various 24/7 rotating or fixed shifts in a fastpaced environment under minimum supervision.
  • Travels to various work locations.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with Paramedic staff.
  • Maintains his/her assigned work area and performs work in a safe, efficient and courteous manner.
  • Performs other duties at this wage grade level or lower such as labouring type duties, maintenance and cleaning activities when not operating assigned vehicle or equipment.

Key Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Considerable experience performing a variety of semiskilled work.
  • Considerable experience in a warehouse and material handling environment including shipping and receiving.
  • Experience conducting routine maintenance and preventative maintenance inspections on: defibrillators, oxygen regulators, suction equipment, patient handling equipment, and other Ambulance equipment or comparable equipment.
