We are looking for a savvy Chartered Professional Accountant ready for the next step in their career to join our dynamic team as Controller in our Victoria office.

You will report directly to the CEO and lead the accounting team while being immersed in the financial well-being of our growing company.

As Controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and finance function, mentoring and motivating your team.

Our office is located in Victoria, BC but the role is open to hybrid/flexible.


An integral part of the financial team, the Controller will be relied on to provide key financial information and reports in a timely and efficient manner to better allow the Executive Team and management to make informed decisions.

You will manage and guide the accounting team to provide timely and accurate financial reporting, efficient information processing, and deep financial insight into the company.

You will act as a key support to the Executive Team in executing the company strategy. You will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting practices while training and mentoring junior staff.


In this role, you will:


  • Managing and mentoring the financial team, ensuring that direct reports have clear job targets.
  • Leading and managing the delivery of full cycle accounting functions on a regular basis, including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and taxes.
  • Ensuring that financial statements and management reports are prepared in accordance with GAAP and best practices.
  • Review and interpret relevant Acts to guide decisions and processes e.g. PST/GST, Labour code, WCB, etc.
  • Liaising with and supporting the Executive and Management Team on any financial analysis or issues.
  • Monitoring financial results and covenants and reporting findings to the Executive Team.
  • Preparing cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
  • Supporting the acquisition of capital assets.
  • Completing all necessary reporting requirements and supporting external auditors on the annual audit engagement.
  • Monitoring and analyzing the financial department to develop more efficient procedures and proper use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure.
  • Driving improvements to accounting processes and systems to obtain operational efficiencies, improve internal controls and produce financial information in a more accurate, effective, and timely manner.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices across the organization.
  • CPA designation with a minimum of 3 years experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a financial management position.
  • Experience with consolidated budgets in a multidivisional environment.
  • Firm understanding of projectbased accounting and costing.
  • Demonstrated independent problemsolving skills.
  • Superior attention to detail without losing highlevel perspective.
  • Experience with various commercial insurance policies
  • CGL, builders' risk, errors and omissions, environmental, etc.
  • Selfmotivated and resultsoriented.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders and present financial information clearly.
  • Demonstrated leadership background with the ability to influence positive change.
  • Advanced skill set in MS Office and demonstrated superior skills with MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of Quickbase is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Xero is an asset.
