The Motor Carrier Investigations Unit strives to ensure the safe operation of the motor carrier and short line rail industries through the administration of the National Safety Code (NSC) and applicable highway safety laws and regulations.

The Motor Carrier Investigations Unit is dedicated to enabling economic development while maintaining safety by finding solutions for the motor carrier industry and those that rely on it.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain accreditation as a Certified Federal Dangerous Goods Inspector.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain accreditation related to the Commercial Drivers Hours of Services inspection.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle to carry out employment duties. Employees will receive an allowance for the business use of that vehicle.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally within the Province of Manitoba.

Qualifications:

Essential:


  • Experience conducting financial, safety, regulatory, compliance and/or operational audits.
  • Experience investigating complaints, allegations and developing recommendations for corrective action.
  • Experience interpreting and enforcing policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to compose a variety of documents.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and problemsolving skills.
  • Effective time management skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Experience and ability to work as a contributing member of a team.

Desired:


  • Experience in, or knowledge of, the commercial transportation industry within the province of Manitoba.

Duties:


Reporting to the Staff Sergeant in charge of the Motor Carrier Investigations Unit, the Motor Carrier Investigator is responsible for planning, scheduling and conducting detailed enforcement activities which includes but is not limited to, facility audits, investigations, and the examination of records of intra-provincial and extra-provincial based motor and rail carriers.

The Motor Carrier Investigator will assess and determine the level of compliance with both Federal and Provincial Acts and Regulations and will initiate appropriate enforcement, education or countermeasures action based on the assessment findings
