Position Overview

The successful applicant will have:

Considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures and practices involved in parks construction, maintenance, infrastructure and asset management.
Considerable knowledge of the regulations, policies, bylaws and objectives related to the work.
Considerable experience in budget management, contract management, project management and construction management.
Considerable experience coordinating inspections, developing and maintaining inspection records, and collecting asset condition and inventory data.
Strong interpersonal, teamwork, leadership, and management skills within an environment of unionized and exempt staff.
Strong decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
Advanced communication skills, both written and oral, including preparing technical reports and delivering presentations.
Demonstrated skills in developing relationships and working collaboratively with a wide variety of diverse stakeholders, elected officials, all levels of government, First Nations, and nongovernmental organizations.
Thorough working knowledge of occupational health and safety, human resources and labour relations practices and procedures; preferably within a unionized environment within the public sector.

Qualifications:

You have graduated from a recognized university with a degree in Parks Administration, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline. You have a minimum of 7 years related experience, which includes progressively responsible supervisory and leadership experience; preferably within a municipal parks context. You are registered or eligible for registration with a related professional association such as, the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA), Planning Institute of BC (PIBC), or Engineers & Geoscientists BC and have a valid BC driver's license. Formal training in Project Management, Contract Management, Construction Management, Asset Management and/or other related discipline is required; certification is preferred.
