The Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre (PLEC) offers employment services customized to meet the needs of unemployed and underemployed youth ages 16-24 experiencing barriers to employment opportunities, career development and labour market integration.

PLEC also provides opportunities for life skills and educational development, pre-employment support, employment readiness training.


Job Summary:

As a member of the PLEC team, the
Employment Placement Facilitator will recruit youth and offer training focused on life & essential skills, and employment readiness skills for youth to be able to successfully engage in and complete a short-term (12 weeks) work placement.

The Employment Placement Facilitator will work in tandem with the PLEC Employer Engagement Specialist to identify and build relationships with employers to screen and match employers with youth looking for short-term work placements.

The Employment Placement Facilitator will also provide case management and job coaching support to youth during their work placements along with support to employers.


Compensation:
$47, $49,000.00 annual salary (prorated for the term), comprehensive group medical insurance plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, RRSP contribution, three weeks annually of vacation, (prorated for the term), generous sick leave, a generous paid holiday schedule, in-house training, and professional development opportunities.


Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility and occasional evening work.


Location:
PLEC- 6169 Quinpool Rd., Halifax.


Reports to:
Manager, Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre (PLEC).


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Ensure the program delivery is congruent with Phoenix's mission, vision, and values.
  • Work in accordance with Phoenix's policies, procedures, and philosophy of practice.
  • Support the daytoday operations of PLEC, including contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Support 24 youth, over the course of the 20month employment contract, through shortterm paid work placements by providing case management support, outreach, community resourcing and job coaching activities.
  • Through intake, assessment, and case management activities, recruit youth to the program, support them through a job search process and offer preemployability readiness training either individually or in small groups.
  • Through job coaching activities, monitor the work placement progress via bimonthly checkins with youth and employers.
  • Provide outreach support through workplace visits, community activities and advocacy.
  • Provide additional support as required to the PLEC team and youth in support of employment /academic goals.
  • Work collaboratively with other Phoenix programs to offer effective youthcentered life skill and employability programming.
  • Identify and recruit employers with the goal of matching youth with employers for shortterm paid work placements, (_in tandem with other PLEC positions_).
  • Inform employers about the benefits of PLEC programs through various communication methods developed in conjunction with the Employer Engagement Specialist.
  • Actively engage and participate in internal Phoenix committees, projects, and activities and required.
  • Support the onboarding and training of new staff and volunteers.
  • Complete and maintain records, assessments, daily statistics, and files using the Phoenix database, ensuring youth confidentiality is protected. Write progress reports as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Solid understanding of youth development and youth employment needs.
  • Ability to design, deliver and facilitate employment & life skills workshops using principles of adult education and experiential learning.
