The Commercial Claims Specialist adjusts and examines large and complex claims involving specialty lines of business, including oversight of various claims experts as well as attending mediations, arbitrations and at trial when necessary.

This role contributes detailed knowledge of claims for multiple lines of business, including advanced principles of negligence and professional liability.


How you will create impact:


  • Directly handles and adjusts commercial fidelity, liability and professional liability claims.
  • Investigates locations involving large property or premises liability claims.
  • Oversees and supervises independent adjusters, engineers, accountants, other outside experts.
  • Provides technical guidance, including coaching and mentoring, for internal CUMIS staff adjusters and examiners.
  • Provides training programs for internal staff development.
  • Supervises and oversees claims where outside legal counsel have been retained.
  • Represents CUMIS at mediations, arbitrations, hearings and settlement conferences.
  • Assesses litigation strategy and provides direction to legal counsel to ensure effective and costeffective legal strategies.

To join our team:


  • 58 years of specialized P&C insurance claims handling experience is required.
  • CIP, FCIP or Certified Fraud Examiner (CIP or CFE required).
  • Degree in Business Administration or law, a professional accounting designation a strong asset.
