Health, Safety and Environment Specialist.**
Qualifications:
  • Education:
o Post-Secondary education required; Degree in Safety or related discipline considered an asset.

o Demonstrate knowledge of the NS HSE Act and Regulations.

o Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation is considered an asset.

  • Experience: 25 years of applicable safety experience in an industrial environment.
  • Shipyard experience is an asset.
  • Experience working in confined spaces is considered an asset.
  • Ability to facilitate training and conduct effective presentations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience leading change in an organization.
  • All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)._

Key Responsibilities:


  • Ensure compliance with the NS Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and ISI safety standards.
  • Remain a consistent positive role model for the workforce.
  • Safety coaching for all personnel, including subcontractors.
  • Produce daily reports to various levels of leadership.
  • Ensure policies and standards are being adhered to.
  • Complete Weekly Safety Inspections.
  • Conduct new hire orientations for employees.
  • Participate in incident investigations and JOHSC meetings.
  • Facilitate Risk Assessments with Hazard Owner(s).
  • Develop communication strategies for the workforce.
  • Work with Apprenticeship Team to support growth of trade apprentices.
  • Complete reviews of HSE Policies and Procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable Provincial Regulations and CSA Standards.
  • Assist in the development of training programs to support employee training and development.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed by HSE Management, in support of business needs.
  • May at times, due to operational requirements, temporarily relocate to any other location.
