Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Behaviour and Retail Operations, the Behaviour Wellness
Facilitator is responsible for evaluating animals in our adoptions program and

maintaining or improving their behaviour and mental wellness. They support animals in
our care through enrichment, training plans, and socialization using positive
reinforcement fear free training methods.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate animal behaviour training classes including the scheduling of
contract trainers, booking private consultations, class registration, and client
relations

  • Participate in behaviour class activities, assisting the contract trainers and
volunteers with set up, class lessons, and take down

  • Monitor the Behaviour Helpline and Surrender Profiles to promote training and
interventions aimed at keeping pets in the home

  • Provide post adoption support to adopters
  • Provide additional enrichment to adoptable pets and assist with adoptions for
dog pairings and behavioural animals

  • Participates in outofshelter initiatives related to promoting safe communities
and better human-animal interactions

  • Initiate and maintain positive relationships with contract trainers, community
training facilities, and other industry partner

  • Assist the Manager with the development of department manuals, processes,
policies, and procedures as assigned

  • Researches and develops innovative training approaches to keep pets out of
the shelter and in their homes

  • Work with the Manager in developing and maintaining behaviour outreach
programs, curriculum, materials, and supplies

  • Collect content and participates in social media such as Facebook Live
  • Some evenings, weekends, and holidays required
  • Other duties as reasonable assigned

Qualifications:


The following are mandatory qualifications for this role:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experienced and confident with public speaking; excellent skills speaking in
front of groups or via telephone, video, or live on social media

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license and access to a vehicle
  • Clear Criminal with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering quality customer care
  • Minimum 1year professional experience in a related field such as animal
welfare or pet training

  • The following qualifications are desired and would be considered assets:
  • Professional Dog Trainer Certification
  • Knowledge of Shelter Buddy an asset
  • Education in animal care or related experience in a clinic or shelter
environment preferred


Authority:

Authority to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities within established policies

and procedures.


Accountability:

This position is directly accountable to the Manager, Behaviour and Retail Operations
and has the authority to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities within

established policy and procedure.


Interpersonal Relationships:

Regular, daily involvement with other WHS departments, volunteers and customers.

Society both inside and outside of the shelter environment.
