About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Health Equity Consultant, the Designated Student Intern position is a reciprocal relationship position providing the student will opportunity to be exposed to the health care systems while also enhancing first person perspective of youth to health care system.

The Student Intern will provide professional support to the Public Health team members by supporting clients and families into the Public Health space, by interacting and collecting perspective of the various Public Health professionals, by helping to inform the Public Health office regarding inclusion and contribute to creating a health work environment, and by bringing youth perspective into the orientation of Youth Health Centre Coordinators.

Privacy and confidentiality are foundational to creating public trust in the health care system.

The Student Intern will have opportunity to learn about the difference between privacy and confidentiality through learning modules and self-directed learning.

Once the student has successful completed these components and demonstrated understanding, the student may be involved in some additional administrative tasks supporting the administrative team.

This can include reminder calls specific to upcoming appointments once they have demonstrated confidentiality practices and appropriate reception with the general public.


Through this position, the Student Intern:

will have opportunity to gain skills in working with the public when accessing health services, will gain knowledge, skills and abilities around privacy and confidentiality, will learn about various health care positions that work within public health, will practice skills of collecting perspective and presenting information back to professionals, and will have opportunity to work in a health care environment that is eager to learn about their lived experience.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • High School Student
  • Grade 11 or 1
  • Interest in pursuing a career in health care
  • Willingness to learn about the heatlh care setting
  • First Aid/CPR considered an asset

Hours:

Full-Time, Short Assignment 35 hours weekly; 70 hours bi-weekly

Beginning July 2023, for eight (8) weeks


Compensation and Incentives:

$ $15.00 Hourly
