Come be a part of Canada's premier Science and Technology organization, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), as the Historic Waste Program (HWP) Management Office in Port Hope, Ontario implements Canada's largest low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) environmental remediation project, the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI).

We are looking for an experienced
Quality Assurance Specialist. Can you see yourself contributing to the success of CNL operations in providing quality oversight, technical support and recommendations to HWP management? What will you be doing

  • Supporting the organization by providing guidance, oversight, and assurance that qualityrelated requirements are met.
  • Preparing QA plans and manuals.
  • Participating as part of integrated project/operational teams to support quality activities and assure outcomes reflect quality requirements.
  • Supporting the selection of Quality Program Requirements for defined scopes of work for project/operational initiatives.
  • Facilitating the planning of oversight.
  • Performing oversight of contractor Quality Plans.
  • Reviewing contractor Inspection and test Plans.


May be assigned the responsibility to be a Team Lead and/or Task Lead to provide indirect supervision to staff, and to provide oversight to contracted services.

Must be able to influence the outcome of Quality Assurance activities at the HWP MO


What we are looking for:


Professional certification:

  • Registration or eligibility for membership in a provincial engineering association or equivalent is an asset. Registration or eligibility for Project Management Professional Certification, is desirable.
  • Certification as a Quality or Process Engineer, Six-Sigma Belt, Lean Leader or equivalent would be a valuable asset. Additionally, certification as PMP or related would be an asset.
Experience: 5+ years' experience in field quality management roles on large complex projects. Previous experience that focusses on quality management is desirable.

Strong abilities with:

  • Good knowledge of CNL's organizational structure, management systems, licensed facilities operations, planning/projects, and conducting reviews/assessments are required.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A working knowledge of one or more of the following qualityrelated standards/codes: CSA-N286, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ASME NQA1 and 10CFR50, CSA-Z299, CSA-B51, Federal/Provincial Construction Regulations, Codes and Standards.
  • Oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate quality and technical issues. In addition, the QA Specialist must be capable of working with minimum supervision demonstrating a respectful work environment.

Security clearance eligibility required:

Reliability Status - which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.

CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".


Working Conditions:


  • Required to visit hazardous environments, such as large construction sites and operating waste water treatment plants.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment to mitigate physical/health hazards.
  • Required to travel to different CNL sites.

Location:

HYBRID at PORT HOPE
CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable a hybrid workforce where possible.

Our Hybrid employees work with their manager to establish expectations for when they will be on site vs when they are working from home.

CNL's Historic Waste Program Management Office is in the beautiful and historic community of Port Hope, Ontario.

Roughly 100kms East of Toronto, still close enough to the "Big City" without all the hassle of being in the "Big City".

As a leader in environmental remediation at nuclear and radiologically contaminated sites, CNL is implementing the Port Hope Area Initiative on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited.

The cleanup of historic Low Level Radioactive Waste by CNL in the communities of Port Hope and Port Granby in Ontario is a demonstration of Canada's commitment to the safe, long-term storage and management of nuclear waste.
