About the role

This position can be located Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and reports to the Toronto First Party Auto Unit Manager.

What you need to know:

Review auto claims in conjunction with policy wordings to determine coverage
Provide direction to adjusters on investigation of claims; and/or direct handle some losses
Prepare disclaimer and/or reservation of rights letters and communication same to underwriters, brokers and insureds when applicable
When legal counsel is engaged, provide instruction to legal counsel to bring about appropriate resolution of claim, participate in mediation/ADR process to bring about resolution of claim and ensure compliance by legal counsel of our litigation guidelines
Negotiate settlements directly where possible
Issue payments within appropriate time frame
Operate within our best practices guidelines, including timely reserve review, notes, payment requests, electronic diary
Inform management of all complaints, large losses, coverage issues, etc.

What we're looking for:

Some prior experience or knowledge in handling commercial auto claims
College/University or equivalent industry experience
Ability to make decisions and give directions to adjusters and/or counsel
Must be a quick learner with strong communication and negotiating skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Proficient computer skills to navigate paperless claim file system
Travel: Approximately 5% to attend mediations/ADR.
