About Us:


The Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office (NSEMO), a division of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing, aims to enhance the safety and security of Nova Scotians, their property, and the environment by providing for a prompt and coordinated response to an emergency.

NSEMO serves as the provincial office which oversees both emergency management and the provincial 911 system.


Nova Scotia's 911 system operates on a province-wide basis and is a collaborative model comprised of many different partner agencies.

Coordination and alignment of processes with our partners is a key factor in the stable and effective 911 system currently available to those in need of assistance.


About Our Opportunity:


Primary Accountabilities:


A few key responsibilities of yours will include:

  • Managing, monitor and report on complex 911 training programs
  • Identifying, designing, and evaluating programs including providing advice and policy recommendations to staff and senior colleagues
  • Ensuring efficient project management and budgets under tight timelines
  • Monitoring and reporting of programs
  • Consulting with various levels of government and industry contacts in the development of training programs and developing, reviewing and evaluating proposals
  • Fostering relationships with clients, contract service providers, and your team

Qualifications and Experience:


This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelor's degree with six (6) years of related experience in program administration, coordination, and training development and methods.


Key qualities of yours include:
- a comprehensive understanding of learning and development principles, adult education, organizational culture, Government, and departmental priorities
- overseeing logistics and the development and implementation of training

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is required.
- effective interactive communication skills (written and verbal), group facilitation experience and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment under tight deadlines.
- the ability to lead complex projects to achieve objectives, and build rapport with senior leaders across all levels
- inspire creativity and motivate people and teams.


The following are considered assets:

  • An education degree or Adult Education Certificate.
  • Certificate in Project Management
  • Proficiency in eLearning development and design
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Enhanced 911 and Next Generation 911 (NG911) callhandling solutions.


We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.


Equivalency:

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered.

Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:


  • A related master's degree and four (4) years related experience
  • A related 2year diploma and eight (8) years related experience

PR 1- PR 17

$3, $3,631.17

Working Conditions:

This role is in a fast-paced decision-making environment. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day. This role does entail a high volume of work which may require longer than normal working hours and overtime. You may be required to travel to worksite locations.


In an emergency/disaster situation, you are obligated to work and will be called upon to return to work with little or no notice.

These situations usually include stressful conditions (physical, emotional, and mental pressure) in the Provincial Coordination Centre (PCC) for unknown periods of time.

During emergencies, you will be required to be available to report to work 24/7/365.


Additional Information:


This position requires a Federal Security clearance to the level of "Secret" and is required to take appropriate training related to supporting an Emergency Operations Centre during times of emergencies.

You must have a valid Canadian drivers license.
